ASTM A182 Forged Pipe Fittings

Views: 9     Author: Chaos     Publish Time: 2024-02-22      Origin: Site

ASTM A182 forged pipe fittings refer to pipe fittings forged from alloy, stainless steel, or duplex steel materials. This standard covers multiple material grades for manufacturing alloy and stainless steel forged fittings to meet different usage environments and engineering requirements. These material grades typically have excellent corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, and good mechanical properties to ensure the safe, stable, and efficient operation of pipeline systems.

During the manufacturing process, ASTM A182 forged pipe fittings require multiple processes, including material selection, forging, heat treatment, mechanical processing, and inspection. Forged pipe fittings usually have high dimensional accuracy and surface quality, which can meet strict engineering requirements and usage environments.

Overall, ASTM A182 forged fittings are a high-quality and high-performance pipeline connector widely used in industries such as petroleum, natural gas, chemical, and power that require high temperature and high pressure resistance in pipeline systems.

Types of Forged Pipe Fittings

ASTM A182 forged pipe fittings are mainly divided into two categories: socket welding pipe fittings and threaded pipe fittings.
Socket welding fittings include: socket elbow, socket tee, socket cross, socket coupling, socket cap, socket boss, socket 45 degree tee, socket union, etc.

Threaded pipe fittings include: threaded 45 degree elbow, threaded 90 degree elbow, threaded tee, threaded cross, male and female 90 degree elbow, threaded coupling, threaded boss, threaded cap, threaded plug, threaded bushing, threaded union, threaded swage nipple, hex nipple, etc.

The Material Grade

The ASTM A182 standard includes various materials such as alloys, stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel, and makes clear provisions on the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and heat treatment of each material.

Alloy Forged Pipe Fittings Properties

ASTM A182 F12 alloy material is a common type of ASTM A182 butt welding flange, which is divided into two grades. Each grade has different chemical composition and mechanical performance requirements, and can adapt to different environmental pipeline systems.

Mechanical Properties

Alloy flanges are widely used in various industrial fields due to their strong corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, excellent sealing performance, and rigidity and elasticity requirements.

Stainless Steel Forged Pipe Fittings

ASTM A182 F316/316L are both austenitic stainless steel materials, which are commonly used in the raw materials of ASTM A182 forged pipe fittings. Their performance is superior to 304 stainless steel, so they are widely used in pipeline systems.

Duplex Stainless Steel Forged Pipe Fittings

Duplex Stainless Steel (DSS) refers to a type of stainless steel where ferrite and austenite each account for approximately 50%. In the case of low C content, the Cr content ranges from 18% to 28%, and the Ni content ranges from 3% to 10%. Some steels also contain alloying elements such as Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, and N. This type of steel combines the characteristics of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. Compared with ferrite, it has higher plasticity and toughness, no room temperature brittleness, significantly improved intergranular corrosion resistance and welding performance. At the same time, it also maintains the 475 ℃ brittleness and high thermal conductivity of ferritic stainless steel, with superplasticity and other characteristics. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, it has higher strength and significantly improved resistance to intergranular corrosion and chloride stress corrosion. Dual phase stainless steel has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion and is also a nickel saving stainless steel.

ASTM A182 F51/53 is commonly used for ASTM A182 forged fittings, while duplex steel is more commonly used in pipelines used in special environments with higher material requirements, and duplex steel will also play a greater role.
